Origin [ edit ]
Theories on the contact of ancient human civilizations with extraterrestrials have become popular since the sixties and especially in the seventies , with the publication of the books of Erich von Daniken andPeter Kolosimo and in particular the bestseller of Kolosimo not Earth (1969) Spaceships and the prehistory ( 1972 ). However, the substrate of these theories had been developed a few years ago, shortly after the fifties , with the emergence of ' UFOs along with the first documented accounts of sightings of UFOs . This theme is joined to the arguments already developed by Charles Fort on the apparentinconsistency of some artifacts chronological and renewed popular interest in the sixties against the ancient civilizations and their mythologies .
The supporters of this group of theories claim that there has been alien influence in the development of civilization and the human species and even putting into question - at least partly - the evolutionary theory of Charles Darwin , sometimes replacing it with creationist arguments , according to the which the human species would be created by higher entities or through " angels "extraterrestrials.
If for paleoanthropology traditional man is the result of an evolutionary process lasted for three million years, which has led the proto monkeys African gradually to assume the upright position and develop their intelligence , forming society more and more advanced, the proponents of these ideas suggest that the man was helped to take this path, if not induced and that in the past have occurred numerous contacts between aliens landed on Earth and local populations. These contacts, in some cases consist of long stay of aliens on our planet, would have affected the development of some civilization traces to witness these events would be recognized - according to proponents of these theories - studying with a certain "mindset" some findings prehistoric.
Among the main disseminators of such cases there have been the archaeologist and the Swiss writer Erich von Däniken [1] and the Italian writer Peter Kolosimo , that the second half of the sixties produced a number of books of great popular appeal common in many countries of the world. Other popular writers who more recently have taken this theory Zecharia Sitchin , Edgar Cayce and Robert KG Temple .
The advent of the Internet has facilitated the spread of such ideas through the creation of many websites , mostly amateur, dealing with myths and mysteries alleged mixing together with archeology topics popular, ignoring, rejecting or questioning positions currently recognized in the scientific and academic world [2] .
Main Ideas [ edit ]
There are several ideas and assumptions about "paleocontatto"
- The man is the result of experiments Wizard or genetic conducted by extraterrestrials on hominids (which up to that point would have evolved naturally on Earth in accordance with the theory of Darwinand therefore no apparent contradiction) in order to make them evolve in time Quicklinks: adaptation evolutionary and neo- creationism , therefore, would be both true. The main argument in support of this idea is the relatively short time it takes for the ' Homo sapiens (300,000 years) to reach the level unmatched by other organizations that have existed for hundreds of millions of years.
- The man would have had contact with extraterrestrials from the very earliest ages. These beings would be gods of ancient societies and would have been depicted in many paintings and works of art, both ancient ( Egyptian , Mayan , Aztec , the peoples of Mesopotamia , Roman ) and in the Middle Ages [4] . Other clues are hidden in religious texts such as the Bible and the Ramayana , or in works of history. Paintings Medieval and Renaissance , especially of a religious nature, depicting God, the Son and the angels, would show in the sky spacecraft, sometimes even with the angels drivers.
- The discovery of OOPArt , or "misplaced objects" as "out of time", which would see the man and his technology much older than what the ' archeology canonical states.
Scientific evidence [ edit ]
There is no scientific proof.
According to the proponents of the theory, there are numerous places with ancient ruins and archaeological sites as evidence of contact with aliens, some of which are built with the expertise to suggest the use of alien technology. Ufologists and in particular clipeologi consider circumstantial evidence some famous archaeological sites (including Giza , Baalbek , Yonaguni , the Nazca Lines , the monoliths ofStonehenge ) and representations, engravings and statues (North and South America, the Pacific Islands and Australia), in support of their hypothesis of contact between human populations and primitive alien life forms, which would have been seen as "angels", "spirits", "of" or "demigods" by these populations [5] .
In addition, ancient astronaut theorists interpret literally the ancient Sumerian literature and sacred texts produced by ancient civilizations of the world, indicating the various pieces as possible reports of a contact at the global level. In particular, are often cited the ' Epic of Gilgamesh and some books of the Bible .
Criticisms [ edit ]
Although the proponents of such theories interpret in their own way texts and artifacts, has not yet been found no evidence to support the idea of ancient astronauts. Each of the items brought in support of these theories is a scientific explanation without resorting to aliens, [6] although the authors touting the theory of ancient astronauts speak frequently of "mysteries" and objects "without explanation" in their books.
Alan F. Alford, author of Gods of the New Millennium (1996), was an adherent of the theory of ancient astronauts. Much of his work is based on the theories of Sitchin. However, he is now fallacious Sitchin's theory after deeper analysis, stating that "I am now firmly of the opinion that these gods personified the falling sky, in other words, the descent of the gods was a poetic rendering of the myth of cataclysmthat was the center of ancient Near Eastern religions. " [7]
The community Christian creationist is in turn very critical of many of the ideas about ancient astronauts creationist writer of "young earth" Clifford A. Wilson published Crash Go the Chariots in 1972 in which he attempted to discredit all claims made in the book of von Däniken Extraterrestrials back? (Chariots of the Gods). [8]
In a 2004 article in the magazine Skeptic , [9] Jason Colavito argues that von Däniken plagiarized many of the concepts would book the morning of the magicians and that this book, in turn, was heavily influenced by the Cthulhu Mythos , and that the core of the ancient astronaut theory originates in the stories of HP Lovecraft The Call of Cthulhu and At the Mountains of Madness .
Ancient Astronaut Society [ edit ]
The Ancient Astronaut Society was founded on 14 September 1973 Advocate Gene Philips, with the aim of coordinating all the research taking place in the theory of ancient astronauts (called ancient astronaut or space archeology), trying to prove a first contact between alien dropped from space ships and men took place thousands of years ago [10] . Every year at least organizes a conference, attended by ufologists and scientists from around the world. The first was held in Chicago from 26 to 28 April 1974 .
The AAS also publishes the newsletter Ancient Skies.
Cultural Influence [ edit ]
The hypothesis of paleocontatto was used as inspiration for a large number of novels by science fiction movies and television series. In fact the theory appears well before in various works fantastic that in the non-fiction, from Edison's novel Conquest of Mars by Garrett P. Serviss (1898) and from the stories of HP Lovecraft The Call of Cthulhu (1926) and At the Mountains of Madness (1931).

Pacal's Sarcophagus - From Mexico, Pacal the Great ruled over the Mayan city of Palenque during the seventh century. The lid of his sarcophagus is proof and evidence for ancient alien theorists. Look at the picture closely.. it looks like Pacal is pictured in a spaceship, with his hand on controls, his foot on a pedal and an oxygen tube in his mouth?
Pacal's Sarcophagus - From Southern Mexico, Pacal the Great ruled over the Mayan city of Palenque, during the seventh century. He was buried inside a pyramid called the Temple of Inscriptions. The intricately carved lid of his sarcophagus has become a classic work of Mayan art—and also proof and evidence for ancient alien theorists. In their view, Pacal is pictured in a spaceship during takeoff, with his hand on a control panel, his foot on a pedal and an oxygen tube in his mouth.
Ancient alien theorists and others suggest, the carvings represent the possibility that ancient Egyptians used electric lighting to illuminate their tombs. There is evidence that shows some of the tunnels, inside the Pyramids, have low enough oxygen levels, fire cannot be sustained to keep the tunnels illuminated.
ANCIENT UFOS
This is an illustration entitled "The Birth of Christ" from a 12th century greek manuscript "The Book of the Evangelists". If you look to the right of the picture there two figures looking up at a semi-circular object with figures inside. The object appears to be shining a beam of light down onto the birth. One of the pair of observers is shielding his eyes, possibly the artist was trying to convey the brightness of the object.
The above image comes from an ancient eastern text Prajnâpârâmita - Suna. In the enlargement you can see two objects that look like hats, but why are they floating in mid air ? also one of them appears to have port holes on it.
This is a renaissance illustration of a UFO sighting in Rome detailed in a book "Prodigiorum liber" by Roman historian Julio Obsequens.
This is a 17th century fresco and is located in the Svetishoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta, Georgia. Notice the two saucer shaped craft either side of Christ.
These two objects are from part of a fresco entitled "The Crucifixion" and was painted in 1350. They are located above the altar at the Visoki Decani Monestary in Kosovo, Yugoslavia.
These two tapestries were created in the 14th century. Both depict the life of Mary. Hat shaped objects can be clearly seen in both tapestries. The one on the left was created in 1330. The one on the right is entitled The Magnificent. Both are located at the french basillica Notre-Dame in Beaune, Burgandy.
The above picture depicts Jesus and Mary on what appear to be lenticular clouds. The painting is entitled "The Miracle of the Snow" and was painted by Masolino Da Panicale (1383-1440) and hangs at the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, Florence, Italy.
I don't know the titles/artists or where these two are displayed, but I know the one on the left is 15th century !
The above painting is by Paolo Uccello (1396-1475) and is entitled "La Tebaide" (painted c.1460-1465). The blown up picture on the right shows a red saucer shaped UFO seen near Jesus. It hangs in the Academy of Florence.
The above painting is by Carlo Crivelli (1430-1495) and is called "The Annunciation with Saint Emidius" (1486) and hangs in the National Gallery, London. A disk shaped object is shining a pencil beam of light down onto the crown of Mary's head. A Blow up of the object is next to the painting.
The above is a painting on wood near the castle Conti Dotremond, Belgium. Moses is receiving the tablets and several objects in the sky are seen near by. Date and artist unknown
The above picture is from a book entitled Prodigiorum Ac Ostentorum Chronicon by Conrad Lycosthenes (1518-1561). Basel: Henricpteri, 1557. It depicts a UFO sighting in Arabia in 1479. The book is held at the Australian Museum Research Library.
The above image is entitled "The Assumption of the Virgin" by ANON. Painted c.1490. Once again notice the discoidal clouds.
The above image is of actual sighting that occurred in Nuremburg on the 14th April 1561. It appeared in a local broadsheet and was a woodcut by Hans Glasser. Held at the Wickiana Collection, Zurich Central Library.
This picture describes a UFO sighting over Basel, Switzerland in 1566. It is held at the Wickiana Collection, Zurich Central Library
This is a French medal apparently commemorating a UFO sighting of a wheel like object in 1680. Artist/location unknown.
The above painting is by Bonaventura Salimbeni entitled "Glorification of the Eucharist", painted in 1600. Notice the Sputnik satellite device. It hangs in the church of San Lorenzo in San Pietro.
More wheels ! This picture shows a UFO sighting over Hamburg, Germany 4 November 1697. The objects were described as "two glowing wheels"
This image is by flemish artist Aert De Gelder and is entitled "The Baptism of Christ" It was painted in 1710 and hangs in the Fitzwilliam Musuem, Cambridge. A disk shaped object is shining beams of light down on John the Baptist and Jesus.
The above illustration depicts a sighting that occurred at 9.45pm on the evening of 18th August 1783 when four witnesses on the terrace of Windsor Castle observed a luminous object in the skies of the Home Counties of England. The sighting was recorded the following year in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. According to this report, witnesses observed an "oblong cloud moving more or less parallel to the horizon. Under this cloud could be seen a luminous object which soon became spherical, brilliantly lit, which came to a halt; This strange sphere seemed at first to be pale blue in colour but then its luminosity increased and soon it set off again towards the east. Then the object changed direction and moved parallel to the horizon before disappearing to the south-east ; the light it gave out was prodigious; it lit us everything on the ground." The image was captured in this by Thomas Sandby (a founder of the Royal Academy) and his brother Paul, both of whom witnessed the event.
These a images from Kimberley, Australia. They are Australian Aborigine cave paintings, possibly 5,000 years old. It is believed they represent ET beings. Here is a link giving you more info on Aboriginal beliefs
painting is called "The Madonna with Saint Giovannino". It was painted in the 15th century by Domenico Ghirlandaio (1449-1494) and hangs as part of the Loeser collection in the Palazzo Vecchio. Above Mary's (left) shoulder is a disk shaped object. Below is a blow up of this section and a man and his dog can clearly be seen looking up at the object.

(Chariots of the Gods).[8]
Ancient Astronaut Society [modifica]
